  1. The answer may be in your genes.   2. Avoid colas, sodas and soft drinks. Soft drinks are liquid calorie bombs filled with artificial colors, flavors and high fructose corn syrup. There are absolutely no beneficial nutrients in commercially bottled or canned carbonated beverages.
  3. Drink more water. Your body functions more efficiently when you are hydrated. You need a minimum of eight 8 oz. glasses throughout the day. Water helps maintain a healthy blood volume and supports healthy digestion, nutrient absorption and elimination. Water also flushes toxins from your liver, kidneys and tissues. An 8 oz. glass before each meal will also fill your stomach and reduce the number of calories you consume.
  4. Limit your alcohol intake. Alcohol is often high in calories as are the mixers (sodas, juices and syrups) they contain. More importantly, the more alcohol you drink, the more poor choices you make. When sober, you would probably never finish a basket of hot wings, bucket of chicken or an entire pizza, but after a night of partying you may do so.
  5. Stop living on fast foods. In the equation “garbage in, garbage out” fast food is the garbage. Fast food is primarily fat, salty and greasy calories and often sprinkled with artificial flavors, colors and preservatives. Processed, packaged fast foods contain only empty calories. Instead, choose healthy natural foods like whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins.
  6. Eat more fiber. Fiber is an “indigestible” type of complex carbohydrate that is difficult or impossible to digest. Fiber helps move food through your digestive tract and helps your bowels and colon eliminate whatever your body doesn’t need or absorb including waste and cholesterol. Fiber promotes healthy weight loss by filling you up so you eat less. As it is slowly digested, it stays in your stomach longer and helps reduce cravings after a meal. Fruits, vegetables and beans are rich sources of natural fiber.

Sugar free or “diet” sodas are not a safe alternative as they contain toxic artificial sweeteners that actually increase your cravings for sugar.
